Frequently Asked Questions About Donating
How is my donation used?
New Lease on Life is 100% volunteer operated. Not a single penny of donations goes toward salaries, which means all of your donation is used directly for rescue efforts.
The majority of our funds are used for veterinary care and supplies such as food and litter. Other expenses include office supplies such as paper, stamps and printer ink, building maintenance such as replacing lightbulbs or repair, fundraising expenses such as setup fees for festivals or adoption events, rent and utilities and pull fees when rescuing from high-kill shelters. You are always welcome to inquire about specific expenses.
Do you only accept monetary donations? Can I donate pet supplies or cleaning supplies?
We welcome and appreciate donations of goods. Please see the list above for the most frequently used items. From time to time, we may make a special request for a single larger item. These requests will be on the main web page.
Our most urgent needs are always dry cat and dog food, canned cat and dog food, paper towels, cat litter, disinfectant, latex or vinyl gloves and mop heads.
Donations, monetary or otherwise, can be dropped off at the shelter any time during regular adoption hours.
If you have any idea for a donation that’s not listed here such as a really awesome cat tree or a large item to be raffled off to raise funds, give us a call. Most likely, we’ll be able to find a use for your donation and will greatly appreciate it.
Are my donations tax deductible?
New Lease on Life is listed as a nonprofit rescue with the state of Ohio, but a special tax designation known as 501(c)3 from the federal government is required before donations can be deductible. Thanks to a generous donation by an anonymous donor, New Lease on Life is currently working on the filing process, which can take several months to complete, but all donations will be RETROACTIVELY tax deductible once we obtain 501(c)3 status.
